Construction of
the new Melbourne Convention Centre (MCC) Project commenced in June
2006 and comprised the development of a new Convention Centre and hotel
complex adjoining, and integrated with, the existing Melbourne Exhibition
Centre on the southern edge of the Melbourne CBD. The new Convention
Centre is to be a world class facility comprising a 5,000 seat plenary
hall, banquet hall with a capacity to accommodate 1,500 delegates, a
range of large and medium sized meeting rooms, substantial public and
pre-function foyer areas and back of house facilities. Associated facilities
to be incorporated within the New Convention Centre include a 24 storey
Hotel complex, VIP and speakers rooms, green rooms, business centre,
press room, prayer room, concierge and luggage rooms.
